Existing Conditions Survey

An existing conditions survey is when an existing building, home, stadium, warehouse or some other structure is measured, and then drawn. It can be defined as:

Def.: The act of field measuring an existing structure, in order to create existing conditions drawings of it.

With only some basic tools a Drafter experienced in performing existing conditions surveys could fairly easily survey hospitals, hotels, office buildings, residential houses, and similar structures.

Surveying large or complex structures like stadiums and bridges could involve the expertise of a Land Surveyor.

Ultimately, the complexity of an existing conditions survey would depend upon the type of structure that would be documented, and the drawing accuracy desired.
